Las playas del sur de Italia son maravillosas, algunas de rocas y otras de arena, bastante estrechas pero con unas aguas turquesas cristalinas de las que no salir nunca. De hecho el agua es donde mejor se está, porque en cuanto sales tienes que darte tortas para plantar la toalla... Siempre había oído eso de que en Italia hay que pagar para ir a la playa, algo que para mí, siendo española, es una locura absurda! Pero hay matices, como en todo.

Beaches in the south of Italy are wonderful, some of rocks and some of sand, pretty narrow but with turquoise transparent waters you'll never want to leave. In fact, the water is the best place to stay, cause the moment you come out you'll face some trouble to lay your towel down... I had always heard in Italy you have to pay to go to the beach, which to me, coming from Spain, it's as absurd as crazy! But of course there's always a way out...

Hay que pagar? Sí, pero también hay zonas, pocas, en las que el acceso es libre. Allí la playa es un negocio y está tan bien explotado como Disneyland. Lo primero es que hay que madrugar para coger sitio, algo nuevo para mí porque la playa es sinónimo de relax, y el madrugón es contraproducente (Una vez madrugué en Goa para ver el amanecer, pero eran otros tiempos...) Después se suele acceder en coche hasta una explanada/parking donde pagas por aparcar. Y a continuación llega el "Lido", es decir, la playa de pago: Sombrillas y tumbonas en hileras donde pagas entre 30 y 50€ el día por usar un par de tumbonas (el precio es más caro cuanto más cerca del agua). Cada Lido tiene, además de su parcela playera, un chiringuito, baños, duchas, grandes éxitos veraniegos al ritmo de Pitbull y los más cool hasta actividades recreativas (aquagym y demás). Lo alucinante es que para ir al baño o enjuagarte la arena de los pies a la salida también hay que pagar, no te lo incluyen en la entrada. Y por último, como la playa es un bien de lujo, la venta ambulante de pareos y tobilleras aquí cobra otra dimensión: tiendas en el camino del parking al lido (Benetton incluído, en mitad del monte!) y boutiques móviles en primera línea, puedes comprarte un bikini metida en el agua.

Do you have to pay? Yes, but there are also a few zones where access is free. The beach is a business here, and it's as exploited as Disneyland. First you have to wake up early to get a place, something silly cause beach to me means relax, and the early rise totally kills it (I got up early once in Goa to see the sunrise, but that's another story...) Then you go by car to a paying parking lot (field/forest/sand). And then comes the "Lido", meaning the non-free beach: rows of umbrellas and deck chairs for 30-50€/day for a couple (the closer to the sea, the more expensive). Each lido has, apart from the proper beach area,  a bar, toilets, showers, soundtrack and, the fancy ones, even leisure activities (aquagym, gymkhanas, and stuff like that). You also have to pay to use the toilet and showers, it's not included with your entry ticket. And finally, as the beach is a luxury option, beach vendors here are something else: there's shops on the way from the parking to the sand (Benetton included, in the forest!) and mobile boutiques by the seaside, you can buy a bikini with your feet in the water.

Para escapar a toda esta barbaridad puedes llegar al alba y plantar tu toalla donde acaba el lido, en unos pocos metros que quedan a los extremos de cada cala, pero en cuanto se hagan las 10 de la mañana estarás rodeado porque todo se llena, kilómetros y kilómetros de tumbonas y todas se ocupan! La última  vez que vi tanta gente por metro cuadrado fue en Mumbai, pero igual que allí, si miras al mar el caos desaparece!

To scape all this madness you can reach at dawn and lay your towel down where the lido ends, in a few meters where there's no room enough for umbrellas and chairs. But around 10am you'll be surrounded, every spot gets occupied, kilometers and kilometers of beach chairs and towels! The last time I saw so many people by square meter was in Mumbai, but there too, if you look at the sea, caos has an end!

LO MEJOR/THE BEST: Punta Pizzo a primera hora, el paraíso. Y llevar el tupper con la "insalata di farro" o focaccia para comer! / Punta Pizzo in the early morning, paradise. And taking focaccia or "insalata di farro" in a lunchbox.

LO PEOR/THE WORST: Los lidos masificados, nunca había visto playas tan angustiosas, es como Benidorm pero además se paga / Overcrowded lidos, it's really too much.
