Mi amigo Rafa lo definía muy bien cantando "Aquí en Getxo... Satisfaction..." Qué tiempos aquellos!

Getxo está a unos kilómetros de Bilbao, en la desembocadura del Nervión, conectado con Portugalete por el puente colgante. Fue el lugar elegido por la burguesía de la zona para veranear, y por ello su paseo marítimo está lleno de villas y palacetes, que dan nombre al Paseo de las Gandes Villas, un recorrido arquitectónico de lo más ecléctico. Otro de los encantos es el Puerto Viejo, y llegando a Punta Galea están el Faro y el Molino Aixerrota, desde donde contemplar una bonita puesta de sol.

Getxo is a few kilometers away from Bilbao, at the Nervión estuary, connected to Portugalete by the hanging bridge. It was the place chosen by the bourgeoise of the area to enjoy Summer time, so the promenade is a line of villas and mansions, giving name to the Promenade of Great Villas, a pretty eclectic architectural tour. Another charming spot is the Old Port, and if you continue to Punta Galea you'll find the lighthouse and Aixerrota windmill, perfect to watch the sunset.

A pocos kilómetros de Bilbao, siguiendo la ría, se encuentra la villa de Portugalete, famosa por su original puente colgante; el Puente de Vizcaya, que es Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO. Este puente trasbordador une Portugalete y Getxo, una a cada lado de la ría, y funciona todo el día llevando a vehículos y peatones de un lado a otro. 

Some kilometers away from Bilbao, by the river, you'll find Portugalete, famous thanks to its hanging bridge; Puente de Vizcaya, part of UNESCO World Heritage list. This ferry bridge connects Portugalete and Getxo, one on each side of the river, and keeps taking cars and pedestrians from one place to the other.

Además del puente, hay una preciosa basílica gótico-renacentista que merece la pena visitar; la Basílica de Santa María, en lo alto de la villa. Y para completar el plan yo os recomiendo tomar algo en la terraza del Gran Hotel Puente Colgante, con vistas a la ría y el puente.

Besides the bridge, there's a beautiful Gothic-Renaissance Basilica at the top of the village; Santa María, worth a visit. And to complete the day here I recommend having something outside Gran Hotel Puente Colgante, with a lovely view to the river and the bridge.

Siempre he dicho que la mejor forma de conocer un sitio es con alguien de allí, y en Bermeo tuvimos una anfitriona de lujo, que nos hizo sentir como en casa (Gracias!). Bermeo es un pueblito pesquero con mucho encanto, callejeamos un poco, tomamos unos pintxos con txacolí con vistas al puerto y luego subimos a la montaña para darnos un homenaje en Cannon Etxea, un restaurante con la mejor carne y las mejores vistas de la zona. Además está entre Mundaka y San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, otros dos sitios muy recomendables!

I've always said the best way to visit a place is with a local, and in Bermeo we had one of the best hostess we could ask for, who made us feel at home. Bermeo is a tiny fishermen village, really charming. We wandered, had some pintxos with txacolí overlooking the port and then went uphill to enjoy a feast at Cannon Etxea, a restaurant with awesome grilled meat and a wonderful view. The town is near Mundaka and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, worth a visit also!

Estudié un máster en Bilbao en el 2008/09 y, como tenía pendiente recoger el título en la Universidad de Deusto, aprovechamos para pasar un día allí, y ver como ha cambiado la ciudad desde que no la  visitaba. Me encantó pasear de nuevo por las calles, pero esta vez con sol, para variar!

I studied a master in Bilbao in 2008/09 and, as I had to collect my degree at Deusto University, we spent a day there seeing how the city has changed since then. I loved walking those streets again, luckily sunny this time!

Vístete de Ópera, MUSEO DEL TRAJE

Con motivo de la Semana de la Ópera el Museo del Traje ha exhibido alguno de los trajes que han formado parte de producciones propias del Teatro Real. Haciendo un recorrido por óperas clásicas como La Bohème o La Traviata hasta llegar a El Público, la moderna adaptación de la obra de Lorca. Para los que os la habéis perdido, aquí tenéis las imágenes.

During the Opera Week the Museo del Traje (Costumes Museum) in Madrid showed some of the gowns made for productions of the Teatro Real (Royal Theatre). From classic pieces such as La Bohème or La Traviata to modern ones like El Público, an adaptation from Lorca work. In case you missed it here are some pictures!
