Liérganes es un pueblo de Cantabria, a media hora de Santander, ideal para pasar una tarde. Tiene bastantes cosas curiosas; un río con un puente romano, que en verdad es bastante moderno, un par de colinas en forma de pechos, conocidas como "las tetas", la leyenda de un hombre que se transformó en pez y desapareció, un montón de balcones diferentes, todos cuajados de flores, y por algún motivo lo típico allí es tomarse un chocolate con churros, mirando al río en vez de a la Plaza Mayor de Madrid!

Liérganes is a Cantabrian town, half an hour away from Santander, perfect to spend the afternoon. It has many curious elements; a river with a roman bridge, which isn't really roman, a couple of hill that remind of boobs, the legend of a man who turned into a fish and disappeared, different balconies overloaded with flowers, and, for some reason, the typical thing to have here are churros and chocolate, overlooking the river instead of Madrid's Plaza Mayor!

Fuente Dé es el lugar perfecto para admirar los Picos de Europa y relajarse en sus prados verdes al pie de la montaña. Sí, suena todo muy Heidi! El paraje, en pleno oasis de tranquilidad, concentra a turistas ansiosos por subir al teléférico, visitantes alojados en el Parador y gente de paso que aparca y coge aire. El teleférico es la mayor atracción, que sube en 3 minutos (tras bastante tiempo de espera) un desnivel de 753 metros, hasta el mirador del Cable, al que nosotros no subimos porque la espera nos pareció desmesurada, aunque puede que las vistas valgan la pena!

Fuente Dé is the perfect place to enjoy the Peaks of Europe and relax on the grass by the mountains. The spot concentrates anxious tourists waiting to get on the cable car, visitors staying at the Parador and  drivers who stop to get some fresh air. The cable car is the main attraction, which goes up 753 meters to  El Cable viewpoint in 3 minutes (after a long queue), we didn't go up cause there was too much waiting time, but maybe the view is worth it!

Estuve en Potes cuando era muy pequeña, y solo recordaba una cosa: los balcones llenos de flores. Allí seguían cuando volví este verano, con algunos turistas más y muchas casas nuevas salpicadas entre las antiguas. La escapada merece la pena, este pueblito atravesado por el río está rodeado de montañas y verde, es ideal para pasear por las callejuelas, bajar al rio, comerse un cocido montañés o incluso tomar una sidra, ya que está bastante cerca de Asturias.

I visited Potes when I was a child, and I just remembered one thing; balconies filled with flowers. They were still there when I came back this Summer, with a few more tourists and many new houses among the old ones. The trip there is worth, this town with a river is surrounded by green mountains, perfect to walk on the narrow streets, by the river, eat a Cocido Montañés or even drink a sidra.

San Vicente de La Barquera

San Vicente de la Barquera es de esos pueblos encantadores que tiene de todo; mar, castillo, muralla, naturaleza, vistas a las montañas, buen pescado... La parte más antigua está en un alto y protegida por la muralla; con el Castillo del Rey, la iglesia de Santa María de los Ángeles y el ayuntamiento, y tiene unas vistas espectaculares, ya que el pueblo se encuentra dentro de un parque natural. 

San Vicente de la Barquera is one of those charming towns that has it all; the sea, a castle, city walls, nature, a view to the mountains, yummy fish... The older part of the city is uphill, surrounded by the wall; with the king's castle, a chrurch and the city hall, and is overlooking the national park where is located.

Langre, Spain

La playa de Langre es uno de esos lugares mágicos, con aire fresco, aguas turquesas, acantilados, flores silvestres... Me enamoré de este lugar en primavera y tuve la suerte de volver en verano. Pequeña y tranquila es uno de esos sitios para perderse con quien más quieras!

Langre beach is one of those magic places with fresh air, turquoise waters, cliffs, wild flowers... I fell in love with the spot in Spring and I was lucky to visit again in Summer. Small and quiet is one of those places to get lost with the one you love!

Mi amigo Rafa lo definía muy bien cantando "Aquí en Getxo... Satisfaction..." Qué tiempos aquellos!

Getxo está a unos kilómetros de Bilbao, en la desembocadura del Nervión, conectado con Portugalete por el puente colgante. Fue el lugar elegido por la burguesía de la zona para veranear, y por ello su paseo marítimo está lleno de villas y palacetes, que dan nombre al Paseo de las Gandes Villas, un recorrido arquitectónico de lo más ecléctico. Otro de los encantos es el Puerto Viejo, y llegando a Punta Galea están el Faro y el Molino Aixerrota, desde donde contemplar una bonita puesta de sol.

Getxo is a few kilometers away from Bilbao, at the Nervión estuary, connected to Portugalete by the hanging bridge. It was the place chosen by the bourgeoise of the area to enjoy Summer time, so the promenade is a line of villas and mansions, giving name to the Promenade of Great Villas, a pretty eclectic architectural tour. Another charming spot is the Old Port, and if you continue to Punta Galea you'll find the lighthouse and Aixerrota windmill, perfect to watch the sunset.

A pocos kilómetros de Bilbao, siguiendo la ría, se encuentra la villa de Portugalete, famosa por su original puente colgante; el Puente de Vizcaya, que es Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO. Este puente trasbordador une Portugalete y Getxo, una a cada lado de la ría, y funciona todo el día llevando a vehículos y peatones de un lado a otro. 

Some kilometers away from Bilbao, by the river, you'll find Portugalete, famous thanks to its hanging bridge; Puente de Vizcaya, part of UNESCO World Heritage list. This ferry bridge connects Portugalete and Getxo, one on each side of the river, and keeps taking cars and pedestrians from one place to the other.

Además del puente, hay una preciosa basílica gótico-renacentista que merece la pena visitar; la Basílica de Santa María, en lo alto de la villa. Y para completar el plan yo os recomiendo tomar algo en la terraza del Gran Hotel Puente Colgante, con vistas a la ría y el puente.

Besides the bridge, there's a beautiful Gothic-Renaissance Basilica at the top of the village; Santa María, worth a visit. And to complete the day here I recommend having something outside Gran Hotel Puente Colgante, with a lovely view to the river and the bridge.

Siempre he dicho que la mejor forma de conocer un sitio es con alguien de allí, y en Bermeo tuvimos una anfitriona de lujo, que nos hizo sentir como en casa (Gracias!). Bermeo es un pueblito pesquero con mucho encanto, callejeamos un poco, tomamos unos pintxos con txacolí con vistas al puerto y luego subimos a la montaña para darnos un homenaje en Cannon Etxea, un restaurante con la mejor carne y las mejores vistas de la zona. Además está entre Mundaka y San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, otros dos sitios muy recomendables!

I've always said the best way to visit a place is with a local, and in Bermeo we had one of the best hostess we could ask for, who made us feel at home. Bermeo is a tiny fishermen village, really charming. We wandered, had some pintxos with txacolí overlooking the port and then went uphill to enjoy a feast at Cannon Etxea, a restaurant with awesome grilled meat and a wonderful view. The town is near Mundaka and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, worth a visit also!

Estudié un máster en Bilbao en el 2008/09 y, como tenía pendiente recoger el título en la Universidad de Deusto, aprovechamos para pasar un día allí, y ver como ha cambiado la ciudad desde que no la  visitaba. Me encantó pasear de nuevo por las calles, pero esta vez con sol, para variar!

I studied a master in Bilbao in 2008/09 and, as I had to collect my degree at Deusto University, we spent a day there seeing how the city has changed since then. I loved walking those streets again, luckily sunny this time!

Vístete de Ópera, MUSEO DEL TRAJE

Con motivo de la Semana de la Ópera el Museo del Traje ha exhibido alguno de los trajes que han formado parte de producciones propias del Teatro Real. Haciendo un recorrido por óperas clásicas como La Bohème o La Traviata hasta llegar a El Público, la moderna adaptación de la obra de Lorca. Para los que os la habéis perdido, aquí tenéis las imágenes.

During the Opera Week the Museo del Traje (Costumes Museum) in Madrid showed some of the gowns made for productions of the Teatro Real (Royal Theatre). From classic pieces such as La Bohème or La Traviata to modern ones like El Público, an adaptation from Lorca work. In case you missed it here are some pictures!

Hervás es una pequeña villa en Cáceres, conocida por su judería y la peculiar arquitectura de sus calles. Es un sitio agradable para visitar si estás por la zona, aunque yo me esperaba algo más. 

Hervás is a small village in Cáceres, known for its Jewish quarter and the original architecture of the streets. It's a nice place to visit if you are around, although I was expecting a little more.

Plasencia, SPAIN

Plasencia es una de las ciudades más bonitas de Cáceres y puerta de entrada al Valle del Jerte. Merece la pena hacer una parada si estáis por la zona y ver la Catedral, el Parador con un precioso claustro y la muralla como mínimo. Yo la verdad es que me quedé con ganas de más, así que volveré algún día! 

Plasencia is one of the most beautiful cities in Cáceres and the gate to Jerte Valley. A stop here if you are around is totally worth it; don't miss the huge Cathedral, the Parador and the antique walls! I actually felt like staying longer, so I'll visit again eventually!

Valle del Jerte, SPAIN

La floración de los cerezos en el Valle del Jerte es una de las escapadas perfectas en primavera. La verdad es que el clima fue desapacible y, además de la niebla, llovió casi todo el día, pero ver el valle cuajado de flores blancas es un espectáculo maravilloso que os recomiendo. Entramos al valle desde arriba, y aunque la niebla impedía una buena panorámica, se podían ver algunas terrazas con los árboles a punto de florecer. Según fuimos bajando las flores ya habían abierto y parecía que los árboles estuvieran cubiertos de nieve. The cherry trees in bloom at the Jerte Valley are the perfect thing to see in Spring. The weather was actually unpleasant, fog and rain most of the day, but seeing the valley covered in white flowers was totally worth it. We entered from the north, where it was too foggy for a good panoramic but you could see the terracing almost in bloom. We went down inside the valley, where the flowers had blossomed already and they looked like snow on the trees.
